2019-20 National Junior honor society
Applications will be available again in Fall, 2020
The Lincoln Middle School Chapter of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) is an honorary community service and scholastic club.
MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS
Students apply online for membership, which is based on the maintenance of a 3.5 grade point average, the desire to do community service, and the demonstration of the principles of good character, citizenship, leadership, and scholarship. Once you are accepted into NJHS, you do not have to apply again.
MEETINGS
Mandatory orientation meetings for all new members will be held once a semester. Students are also invited to attend monthly Builder's Club meetings (see below).
ACTIVITIES
Students are responsible for completing four hours of community service per semester. This service may be done at Lincoln. NJHS members contribute more than 1500 hours (total) of service hours to the community.
BUILDER'S CLUB: Next meeting, Tues., March 3, 2020, Room 204, 3:15 to 4:15 P.M.
The Builder's Club is one community service option for NJHS members. The club is a partnership with UCLA's Circle K (Kiwanis Club) students. Meetings are held on the first Tuesday of every month. Service projects are completed at each meeting, and NJHS students earn one hour of community service for every meeting they attend. You do not have to be a member of NJHS to attend, but this is a good opportunity for NJHS members to get community service hours on campus. (6th grade students interested in doing community service during the first semester are invited to attend.) Students who want more information can see Ms. Hart in room 264.
NJHS APPLICATIONS
Announcements regarding the application dates will be made via daily bulletins, student TV, and homebase visits at the beginning of each semester (September and January).
6th Graders
6th graders apply to join during the 2nd semester of their 6th grade year, after they receive first semester report cards.
7th Graders
7th graders may apply both semesters.
8th Graders
8th grade may apply 1st semester of 8th grade year. Any 8th grader who maintains his/her NJHS membership in good standing during the entire 8th grade year will receive a special recognition in the 8th grade graduation program. Exceptions are made for students new to Lincoln.
8th grade students who do not apply for NJHS during the first semester of 8th grade have the option of applying for recognition by the California Junior Scholastic Federation. Applications for CJSF are announced by the counseling office in the second semester. The Lincoln counseling office handles the CJSF applications and all questions about them. CJSF does not require community service.
